Properties
2P(molecular formula C3H7NO2, structural formula CH3CH(NO2)CH3) is a colorless, transparent, oily liquid with a fruity fragrance. Its relevant physical and chemical properties are as follows:
- Melting point: - 93°C
- Boiling point: 120.3°C (Some literature also reports 121.2±8.0 °C at 760 mmHg)
- Density: 1.0±0.1 g/cm³
- Flash point: 37.2±0.0 °C (Some data show 28°C)
- Vapor pressure: 14.7±0.2 mmHg at 25°C
- Refractive index: 1.396
- Solubility: Slightly soluble in water, miscible with organic solvents such as aromatics, ketones, esters, and ethers.
- Stability: Its aqueous solution is acidic in chemical properties. The pH of a 0.01mol/L aqueous solution is 5.33; the pH of a saturated aqueous solution is 4.29; and the pH of water - saturated 2P is 3.00. Its chemical properties are similar to those of ni tromethane, and it can react with aldehydes to form monohydroxy nitro compounds.
Product Applications
Solvents
- Coating solvents: It is a special solvent for ethylene and epoxy resin coatings. It can endow coatings with good film - forming properties and gloss, and regulate the drying speed and leveling property.
- Ink solvents: It can effectively dissolve pigments and resins in inks, ensuring that inks adhere accurately during the printing process and present clear patterns and texts.
- Adhesive solvents: It can dissolve polymer materials in adhesives, enhancing the adhesion between adhesives and adherends.
- Other solvent applications: It can be used for the dissolution of waxes, fats, dyes, etc., and plays a role in wax products, fat processing, the dye industry, etc.
Fuel - related
- Rocket fuel: It has a relatively high energy density, can release a large amount of heat during combustion, generate a large thrust, and provide power for rocket launch and flight.
- Gaso-line additives: It can improve the combustion performance of gaso-line, increase the octane number of gaso-line, reduce knocking phenomena, enhance the efficiency and power performance of engines, and reduce the content of harmful substances in exhaust emissions.
Organic Synthesis Raw Materials
- Pharmaceutical synthesis: It is an important intermediate for synthesizing a variety of drugs, such as used for treating obesity, clortermine, and ticlozan, etc.
- Pesticide synthesis: It participates in the synthesis of some pesticides such as insecticides and fungicides, and is used to prevent and control pests and diseases in agricultural production.
- Synthesis of other industrial chemicals: It can be used for the synthesis of a variety of other industrial chemicals. For example, it acts as an oxidant in the Hass-Bender oxidation, participating in the oxidation reactions of some organic compounds to form compounds with specific structures and properties, which are widely used in industries such as plastics, rubbers, and fragrances.
