Properties
Amino alcohol 95, namely AMP-95, mainly consists of 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol with a content of approximately 95%, and the remaining 5% is water. It is usually a colorless and transparent liquid, which can be miscible with water and soluble in ethanol. The pH value of a 0.1mol/L aqueous solution is 11.3. Its relative density (d20²0) is 0.934, the melting point is between 30 - 31°C, the boiling point is 165°C, and it is 67.4°C (at 1.33kPa), and the refractive index is 1.449.
Applications
In the Coatings Field
- pH Regulation and Stabilization: As a pH regulator, it can precisely control the pH value of the system within an appropriate range, preventing problems such as gelation and water separation caused by pH fluctuations, and enhancing the storage stability of the coatings.
- Dispersion Function: It is an efficient pigment co-dispersant. The amino group in its molecule can form hydrogen bonds with the surface of the pigment, improving the dispersion efficiency of inorganic pigments such as titanium dioxide and calcium carbonate, reducing the grinding time, and preventing the re-aggregation of the pigments.
- Performance Enhancement: It can improve the scrub resistance and water resistance of the paint film. In coatings for metal substrates, it can chelate with anti-rust pigments to form a passive film, improving the salt spray resistance. It can also enhance the water resistance and scrub resistance of the coating film of high-gloss coatings.
- Environmental Protection Advantages: It has low volatility (VOC < 50g/L), reduces the amount of other additives in the formulation, and meets the development needs of green coatings.
In the Metalworking Fluid Field
- pH Control: It is an efficient neutralizer and pH regulator, used for pH control of concentrated solutions and on the tank side.
- Service Life Extension: It improves the biological stability of metalworking fluids and extends their service life.
- Tool Protection: It has little corrosiveness to the cobalt binder in cemented carbide tools.
- Synergistic Effect: It enhances the performance of certain bactericides, reduces the formaldehyde content in the air, and removes the formaldehyde that may be released from a small amount of formaldehyde aqueous solution.
In the Water Treatment Field: As an amino alcohol additive for boiler water systems, it can remove the dissolved CO2 in water and control corrosion.
In Other Fields: It is used as an emulsifier for polyethylene and waxes, suitable for both ordinary and pressure emulsification technologies. It can adjust the pH in personal care products. It can also be applied in industries such as inks, adhesives, and rubbers.
