Properties

• Physical properties: Technical grade 94% cypermethri is mostly a yellow to brown viscous solid. It turns into a viscous liquid at 60 °C. It is odorless, with a relative density of about 1.1 - 1.24 (at 20 °C), a melting point ranging from 60 - 80 °C, a vapor pressure of \(2.3×10^{-7} Pa\) at 20 °C. It is poorly soluble in water (with a solubility of 0.004 - 0.009 mg/L in water at 20 °C), and is soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols, chlorohydrocarbons, ketones, benzene, and xylene (with a dissolution amount of > 450 g/L). The flash point is about 80 °C.
• Chemical stability: It is stable to light, and chemically stable under weak acid and neutral conditions. It is easily decomposed in the presence of alkalis, with a hydrolysis half - life of about 1 day in an alkaline medium (DT50 is 1.8 days at pH 9 and 25 °C). It slowly loses weight when the temperature is > 220 °C.

Applications

• Agricultural field: It is a broad - spectrum insecticide. It has an outstanding effect on lepidopteran larvae, and also has a good control effect on homopteran and hemipteran pests, but has a poor effect on mites. It can be used on a variety of crops such as cotton, fruit trees, tea plants, soybeans, sugar beets, rice, and corn to control pests such as aphids, cotton bollworms, Spodoptera litura, measuring worms, leaf - rolling insects, flea beetles, weevils, and corn borers.
• Hygiene field: It is used in public places such as homes, hospitals, hotels, and trains to control sanitary pests such as mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, fleas, lice, and bed bugs. It can also be used to control external parasites on livestock, such as ticks and mites.
