2-ethylhexyl alcohol is usually synthesized by hydrogenation of isoctane. Iso octane first reacts with hyd rogen gas in the presence of a catalyst to form 2-ethylhexyl alcohol.
Applications:
Plastics industry: 2-ethylhexyl alcohol is an important raw material for the synthesis of polyester, polyvinyl alcohol and other plastics. It can be used as a plasticizer to improve the flexibility and ductility of plastics.
Solvent: Due to its good solubility, 2-ethylhexanol is commonly used as a solvent in coatings, varnishes, inks and adhesives. It can provide a longer volatilization time in the paint and improve the fluidity of the coating.
