PVP-I is an unstable complex formed by the complexation of surfactants with iodine, belonging to the category of iodophor external disinfectants. It is a yellow brown to reddish brown amorphous powder at room temperature, easily soluble in water or ethanol, and insoluble in ether . The 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone homopolymer is a surfactant that helps to wet and penetrate objects in solution, thereby enhancing the bactericidal effect of iodine. Among them, 80-90% of bound iodine can be depolymerized into free iodine, with high concentration, strong bactericidal effect, odorless, non irritating, non allergenic, and low toxicity. It is a broad-spectrum fungicide that can kill viruses, bacteria, spores, fungi, and protozoa.
