Colorless to light yellow transparent liquid with characteristic odor of the product. Melting point is less than -80ºC, boiling point is 289ºC, decomposes at boiling point temperature, relative density 0.9729 (25/4ºC), relative vapor density 9.2, dynamic viscosity 3.5-4.0mN/m, refractive index 1.4226, octanol/water distribution Log value of coefficient: 4.0, solubility in water is 0.1% (25ºC), solubility in water is 7% (25ºC), soluble in most organic solvents and hydrocarbons, insoluble or slightly soluble in glycerin, hexylene glycol and Amines.
It has the properties of ester and hydrolyzes under alkaline conditions. Dry hydrogen chloride is introduced at room temperature to generate chlorobutane. In the presence of boron trif luoride, it reacts with benzene to produce sec -butylbenzene and 1,4-di-sec- butylbenzene. Treat with an iline and dilute sodium hydro xide solution to generate dibutylan iline.
