Methylparaben is a 4-hydroxybenzoate ester resulting from the condensation of the carboxy group of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid . It is the most frequently used antimicrobial preservative in cosmetics. It occurs naturally in several fruits, particularly in blueberries.
Methylparaben is an anti-fungal agent often used in a variety of cosmetics and personal-care products. It is also used as a food preservative.
